Hiking at lake Weissensee.
If you would like to go hiking, you are right at Weissensee. We recommend to visit the graslands on the alm or walk around the lake. Arround the lake you will find 200 km of marked hiking trails leading directly from the villages of 930 m to 2300 m above sea level. The range of possibilities is wide: from the flat walk around the lake to the rocky mountain peak, from the graslands full of flowers to the dense forest, in the nature park Weissensee, the variety of hikes provides for a varied hiking holiday.
Hiking with a guide.
For those who like to go hiking with a guide, there are organized herbal walks. During the hike "Follow the forest glass" you will get to know the places of the former glass factory. Or you can make the guided tour "stress-free hiking" offered on the Weissensee. If you prefer "Hüttengaudi" in the group, then take part in the "communal hike to the Kohlrösslhütte". You can find the dates in the broschure in your appartement at alte Säge and here ...
Alm hinterm Brunn.
Directly from alte Säge, you hike along a forest trail to the "Alm Hinterm Brunn", which offers delicious local food. If you want to go further, you can reach Hochtratten and the Weiße Wand and go back to the Weissensee, where you return by the natural park bus to alte Säge. The distance is approx. 13 km and you pass about 840 m of altitude.
Hiking with children to the end of the lake.
From alte Säge take the flat walkway along the lake heading towards east. Especially with smaller children, this hike is perfect, as you go only a few small ascending slopes.
After arriving in Ortsee, you will return to alte Säge with the ship of Weissensee Schifffahrt (exit: Seefriede)
Gailtaler Höhenweg / mountain route
Are you interested in hiking a part of the Gailtal mountain route from the Weissensee in Carinthia, then you can go from the Naggler Alm over the Golz and the Spitzgel? Very persevering hikers continue to the Windischhöhe, others turn around and enjoy the alpine air on the farmed alpine pastures.
